Questions to ask before comparing a used EV

A used EV comparison starts with the same ownership questions as a new vehicle, but adds history, warranty, software, and charging compatibility. A low listed price does not tell the whole story.

Identify the exact vehicle

Record the model year, trim, battery configuration, odometer reading, vehicle identification number, and asking price. Small trim differences can change range, hardware, and warranty terms.

Ask for condition evidence

Request maintenance and repair records, collision history, tire condition, and an explanation of dashboard warnings. Consider a qualified inspection. Keep verified records separate from a seller's description.

Read the warranty, not a summary

Battery and powertrain warranties depend on the vehicle, first-use date, mileage, transfer conditions, and location. Read manufacturer documentation for the exact vehicle and ask for remaining warranty information in writing.
